Kronos, child of ouranos, deposed him by force, then zeus deposed kronos. New gods called olympians because they dwelt on mt. According to homer, olympians would behave in ways that are immoral. : zeus had interest in weather, fertility, gold, kings, warfare, counsel, supplication, strangers, beggars, safety, marriage, home and property. Demanded worship from humans, but did not love humanity in general or impose codes of belief or morality. Wanted recognition for powers and be respected for them. Worship by making or promising an offering and accompanying it with a prayer. Offerings could be durable objects, like food, animals, drinks, statues, etc.
