Document Summary
Social psychology is the scientific study of how individuals" thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are influenced by the social context. Self-concept refers to the sum total of beliefs that people have about themselves. Self-schemas are beliefs people hold about themselves that guide how they process self- relevant information. 5 psychological personality traits: ocean abbreviation: openness, neuroticism, agreeableness, extraversion, consciousness. Some attributes are more important or central to a person"s self-concept than others, and this importance is referred to as schematicity. Aschematic - not having a schema for a particular categorization or situation. Schematicity not only influences how we behave in any given situation, it also influences how we remember past events. People tend to reconstruct their memories for past events or behaviours in a schema-consistent manner. Self-awareness is the ability to see yourself as a distinct entity, and it is important in developing a self-concept.
