Document Summary

Both sperm and ova are considered gametes which are haploid (contain half of the required amount of genetic info). Stem cells: undifferentiated cells that can divide and produce any one of a variety of differentiated cells. Inner cell mass: mass of cells inside the morula that eventually will form the embryo. Trophoblast: the cells that form the outer layer of a blastocyst. Embryo: the cell development stage preceding the fetus. Blastocyst: the stage a fertilized egg reaches 5-6 days after fertilization. After the zygote becomes a blastocyst, the trophoblast eventually develops into extra-embryonic tissues. In prenatal development, the embryo separates into three layers. Develops into the digestive system, urinary tract, and lungs. Transforms into muscle, bone, and the circulatory system. Develops into skin, hair, teeth, and the central nervous system. After the 3 layers differentiate, the embryo forms a small tube of ectoderm inside the embryo.
