PSYC 205 Chapter Notes - Chapter 4: Biological Neural Network, Phosphodiesterase, Discovery Digital Networks
Document Summary
Every organism lives in an environment surrounded by hundreds, or thousands, of stimuli. Those with motivational significance will elicit a combination of behavioural responses. Stimuli that do not initially elicit a response may acquire the ability to do so through association with motivationally significant events. The us is presented following the cs regardless of how the animal responds to the cs. Pa(cid:448)lo(cid:448)"s dogs- conditioned reflexes: unconditioned stimulus (us) = food, unconditioned response (ur) = salivation, conditioned stimulus (cs) = bell, conditioned response (cr) = salivation. Prior to conditioning, the us elicits the ur = unconditioned reflex. Following conditioning trials in which the cs is paired with the us, the cs elicits the cr = conditioned reflex. A change in behaviour that occurs because the behaviour produces some consequence, positive or negative: any behaviour that produces an outcome. An outcome, such as food, is only presented if the animal performs a response.
