When asked what was said in the unattended ear, could only identify that there was a message and the gender of the person speaking. Sensory memory all of incoming information for a fraction of a second. Filter identifies physical characteristics of attended message, like gender, tone: only allows this in, while other info is filtered out. Detector processes high level info, like meaning; this processes all of the info that comes into it because only important info has been let in. Short-term memory receives output from detector, only holding for 10-15 seconds; transfers to ltm to be held indefinitely.
