Some aspects of personality are universal while obviously others are unique to the individual. Personality psychology is the scientific study of what makes us who we are and the environmental and genetic factors that make us that way. Environmental factors: culture, society, and socialization by parents and peers have a huge impact on our personalities. Traits: a person typical way of thinking, feeling, and acting, in various situations, at different times. Certain characteristics can develop from our socialization, and from our personal experiences. These traits will be consistent across our lives and will be expressed in all sorts of way, from shaking hands, to the kind of music one prefers. Argued that personality is not fixed and universal as trait theory purports, but rather that it is an adaptation developed from the (cid:272)ultural a(cid:374)d histori(cid:272)al (cid:272)o(cid:374)te(cid:454)t of the i(cid:374)di(cid:448)idual"s life.
