PSYC 231 Chapter 1: PSYC 231 Chapter 1
Document Summary
Personality is made up of various factors with different aspects, and changes regularly. Understand our genetics, evolutionary development, and physiology. Gives us our physical being and building blocks of neurons, hormones, and brain structures that take in and process information and direct our responses to the world. May be parts of the person hidden under the surface. Two early personality psychologists mused that there are aspects of personality that are universal to all people, that are shared by similar people, and that are completely unique to a single individual. A genetic makeup, a brain, a nervous system, and are born into a social group. Extraverts: people who are more likely to venture forth in the world to meet other people. We would expect people who behave similarly to share similar personality characteristics. We could say that another human universal is the desire for actualization (i. e. , to be who we are meant to be; to develop and express our individual identity).
