PSYC 271 Chapter Notes - Chapter 8: Indirect Pathway Of Movement, Sensory System, Motor Learning
Document Summary
In sensory system, information mainly flows up the hierarchy; in the sensorimotor system, information mainly flows down. Primary motor cortex: located in the precentral gyrus of the frontal lobe. It is the major point of convergence of cortical sensorimotor signals, and it is the major, but not only, point of departure of sensorimotor signals from the cerebral cortex. Cerebellum and basal ganglia: both the cerebellum and basal ganglia interact with different levels of the sensorimotor hierarchy, and in doing so, coordinate and modulate its activities. The axons of neurons in the red nucleus then decussate and descend through the medulla, where some of them terminate in the nuclei of the cranial nerves that control the muscles of the face. Comparison of the two dorsolateral motor pathways and the two ventromedial motor. Sensorimotor spinal circuits: the se(cid:374)sori(cid:373)otor hierar(cid:272)h(cid:455)"s lo(cid:449)est le(cid:448)el: the spi(cid:374)al (cid:272)ir(cid:272)uits a(cid:374)d the (cid:373)us(cid:272)les the(cid:455) control. Increasing the number of neurons in its motor pool that are firing.
