Epidural: injected into epidural space of spinal canal to numb lower body. Spinal block: injected into spinal fluid to numb lower body. Colostrum: high protein, antibody-rich fluid that flows from breast before onset of lactation. Lactational anovulation: lack of ovulation due to breast milk production. Chorionic villi: finger-like projections that emerge from sac that surrounds developing fetus. To get pregnant, hormones must be at right level, ejaculation needs to happen, the sperm needs to reach the egg etc. Fertilized egg (zygote) continues to travel down fallopian tube, making its way to uterus for implantation: process takes 5 days, cell division is occurring, ratio of male to female fetuses is about 106:100. Imbalance is due to greater loss of female embryos during pregnancy. Cessation of menstruation: not a clear indicator because spotting or light bleeding may occur during implantation of egg, could have light spotting right through pregnancy, missed period could also be due to stress.
