The alphabet served to neutralize all these rich divergences of tribal cultures by translaing their complexiies into simple visual forms. Naionalism and industrialism both derived from the explosion of print technology in the 16 th century. The most important quality of print is its repeatability. The electric media are the telegraph, radio, ilms, telephone, computer and television.
