It"s the federal government law that passes in ontario. Law is constantly changing so the book cannot be used as a source. Evergreen, law is always changing. (common law) Personal information protection and electronic data act (pipeda) Have to be identified as an individual, has to be personal information. Example: prescriptions or subscription of banking information about individuals leading to unwanted and intrusive solicitation. Three sections: collection of info, storing of info, disclosure of info. Basic operations of pipeda individuals personal info (pi) Businesses must obtain an individual"s consent when they collect, use or disclose. Individuals have the right to access pi held by a business and challenge its accuracy. Pi can only use purpose which it was collected. Business is going to use it for another purpose, consent must be obtained again. Businesses must ensure pi is properly protected. S. 2 (1) informational about an identifiable individual. Example: age, name, id number, income, evaluations, ethnic origin.
