Disorder- syndrome clinically significant behavioural, cognitive, or emotional disturbances that reflect dysfunction in underlying mental process, and is associated with distress or disability in important area of functioning. Abnormality/psychopathology- interfering with adaption aka it hinders or prevents the individual to negotiating, developmental tasks, acquire language skills, emotional control, satisfactory social relationships. Can reside within the person or caused by traumatic event. Developmental norms- rates of growth, sequences of growth and forms of physical skills, language, cognition, emotion and social behaviour. This is evaluated in order to see what could be wrong. Atypical frequency intensity/ duration of behavior, and displaying inappropriate situations are signs for when something is amiss. Also if something is seen different from normal growth can be considered i. e. autistic children not being responsive to parents as a child compared to other children who are from the time of birth. Culture also plays a role because of the different values, beliefs, and customs differ from every culture.
