Organizational structure: the speci cation of the jobs to be done within a business and how those jobs relate to one another. Managers should asses a variety of factors as they plan for and then create an effective structure. Structure may often develop without much planning. The chain of command: organization charts: a physical depiction of the company"s structure showing employee titles and their relationship to one another. Job specialization: the process of identifying the speci c jobs that need to be done and designating the people who will perform them. If job specialization is carried too far, jobs become too narrowly de ned, people get bored, become less satis ed with their jobs, and they loose sight of their contributions to the company. Functional departmentalization: means organizing departments according to the function they perform: marketing, nance, production, human resources etc.
