Document Summary
Ppl search for ways to satisfy needs then behave accordingly. Motivation = set of forces that cause ppl to behave as they do. Scientific management: money is primary human motivator in workplace. Human relations: social factors are primary motivators. More than 1 need may motivate a person at the same time. Frustration-regression component = person who is frustrated by trying to satisfy a higher level of needs will regress to preceding level. Deficiency: lack needs for achievement, affiliation, power. Dual-structure theory: satisfaction & dissatisfaction are 2 distinct dimensions instead of opposite ends of same dimension. Equity theory of motivation = ppl want to be treated fairly. Expectancy theory = ppl motivated to work toward goal if they want it & think they have a reasonable chance of achieving it. Effort-to-performance expectancy = belief that effort will leave to performance. Performance-to-outcome expectancy = belief that performance will lead to certain outcomes.
