Monochronic & polychronic time - edward t. hall. Complex societies organize time in at least 2 diff ways. Polychronic - doing many things at once. Monochronic - doing one thing at a time. Stresses involvement of ppl & completion of transactions rather than adherence to preset schedules. Tend to make fetish out of management. Life in general - at times, unpredictable. What can be accomplished one day in 10 mins may take 20 mins the next time. Some days, ppl will be rushed & can"t finish, others, there is time to spare & remaining time wasted . Matters in polychronic culture seem in constant state of flux. Ppl in western world find little in life exempt from iron hand of m-time. Time so thoroughly woven into fabric of existence that we are hardly aware of degree to which it determines & coordinates everything we do. Makes it possible to concentrate on one thing at a time but also reduces context.
