Starting with python: c++ and java = useful for creating desktop applications and other big projects, python = programming language, made up of statements. Statements = an instruction in the program. String = a bunch of characters: must be placed in quotes to distinguish them from python commands, e. g. print 100 + 65. Not in quotes, so not a string: called an expression, expression, a calculation that is specified for python to carry out, e. g. An expression that, when evaluated, gives a number as a result: there are other types of expressions in python as well. Can produce strings or other types of python information. Jpegs, pdfs: so when the web server sees a script file, it has no way to determine what type of content it will produce, doesn"t know what mime type to send to the browser along w/the content. Therefore we need to indicate the mime type ourselves.
