About of all robberies do not involve a weapon of any kind while robberies involving firearms have been declining. While numbers tend to fluctuate, 75% of robbery victims don"t suffer physical injuries of any kind. Robbery involves the threat of violence, real or implied (otherwise victims would not hand over their money or goods) Robbery is not the same as burglarized. According to the 2012 ucr, robbery rates have been plummeting since 1990"s reaching lowest rate in 30 years in 2012. According to 2009 gss robbery rates increased between 1999 and 2009 (although the level of violence involved in the robberies did not increase) Level 1: common assault- no weapon is produced, and no one is seriously injured. Level 2: involves a weapon or causing bodily harm (does not require a weapon plus bodily harm) Level 3: wounding the victim, maiming or disfiguring the victim or endangering the victim"s life (sometimes called aggravated assault)
