Becker - most well known of labeling theorists . 1950 - sutherland detailed influence interests groups had when rising up to demand introduction of sexual psychopath laws throughout us. Becker talked about subjective nature of social problems. Explored how they came to be defined as social problems through process of social reaction. Unless certain behaviour identified as being deviant by some other indiv/group in society, would likely be ignored altogether. Becker characterized moral entrepreneurs as crusaders b/c act as though on holy mission to stamp out evil. Feel it is moral duty to impose views on others. Whether others agree w/ views or not. Moral crusades typically led by well-to-do indivs w/ money & political connections necessary to further own agenda. If crusade successful, usually results in new rules. Along w/ officials & agencies necessary to enforce rules. Becker also known for work on master status & auxiliary status. According to him, person"s master status would override his/her auxiliary/secondary status.
