Scientific theory=a set of thoroughly tested, generally agreed upon conclusions about, or explanations of, certain phenomena. Thanks to theory, things are often considered taboo and that may elicit uncomfortable laughter can actually be researched and discussed in an academic manner. Psychodynamic theory= (sigmund freud) a theory that attempts to explain the conscious and unconscious psychological forces that underlie human personality, motivation, and behaviour. Id=the portion of an individual"s personality that represents unconscious and/or instinctual urges and desires. Ego=the portion of an individual"s personality that mediates between the realities of the outside world, the individual"s urges and desires, and the individual"s conscience. Superego=the portion of an individual"s personality that represents that person"s internalized standards, which are based on social and parental learning. Psychoanalysis=therapy conducted between a therapist (psychoanalyst) and a client, with the goal of examining, correcting, and balancing any disruptions in the client"s personality. Erogenous zone=an area of the body with heightened sensitivity.
