Document Summary

Developmental psychology examines changes in biological, physical, psychokogical, and behavioral processes as we age. Critical period - age range where certain experiences must occur for normal development. Sensitive period is optimal age range for certain experiences (like the abecedarian program - start early with ghetto babies and they might get somewhere) Cross sectional design - method of study where people are observed at different ages for a single ability. Ex: intelligence study for age 10-60 - test a 10, 20, 30, 40 year old etc. o o. Data can be collected quickly this way (don"t have to wait for subject to age) However, each person in the different age range grew up in a different generation. Ex: 60 year old now may be less "intellige nt" than a future 60-year old due to being brought up in different environments. Longitudinal design - testing the same cohort as they age.
