PSYC 201W Chapter Notes - Chapter 3: Institutional Animal Care And Use Committee, Null Hypothesis, Primum Non Nocere
Document Summary
Generating research questions -> problems that we want to know more about/understand. Four sources for research ideas: everyday life, practical issues, past research, theory. Theory: a statement or group of statements that explain how & why some part of the world works, & provides predictions about the world to be empirically tested. Personal characteristics can influence the selection of research questions and lead researchers to over look important aspects of human behaviour. Not all ideas are directly subject to scientific investigation -> must be capable of being confirmed or denied. After selecting an idea you must become familiar with the existing info on the topic. Understand the current state of knowledge-> review existing literature on subject. You should also define your objectives -> makes finding info less difficult. After making lists of all the articles, books, & other resources; you need to obtain copies. After conducting the literature search you must decide if it is feasible to design a study.
