Measurement: the assignment of symbols or numbers to something according to a set of rules, measurement can be categorized by the type of info that is communicated by the. Scales of measurement: symbols assigned to the variables of interest: there are four levels of measurement -> provide different kinds & amounts of info, nominal scale. The use of symbols such as words or numbers, to classify or categorize measurement objects into groups or types. Non-quantitative because it measure types rather than amounts of something. Used to name, categorize, or classify (ex: gender, marital status, personality type: ordinal scale. A rank order measurement scale -> which person is higher or lower on variable. Any variable where the levels can be ranked, but distance between those levels cannot.
