Experience of patient w/ one form of cancer can differ radically from that of another patient w/ a diff form. Oncology - study & treatment of cancer. Oncologists often specialize in a particular site where cancer occurs in the body. Specialization further indication of differences between types of cancer - sites of cancer. Site at which cancer occurs & symptoms associated w/ it are significant factors in determining a person"s psychological reactions to diagnosis of cancer. What all forms of cancer share - uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells. Grow in uncontrolled manner & destroy normal cells in the process. When abnormal cells form a mass, it is called a tumour. Tumour may be localized, or cells may spread to other parts of body. Metastasized cancer - considerably harder to treat since treatment cannot be localized.
