Both non-social and social forms of living can evolve under what circumstances sociality vs. non-sociality is favoured. They take on joint ventures like joint hunting. Pack hunters can take on lager prey together than one individual can. Group defends a territory containing sources of food and water where a single animal could not, repelling others of the same species trying to come in. Joint care of offspring for a parent to provide care, it must remain with the offspring for a period of time, and if both parents are to provide care they much remain with each other. So with biparental care, species have to be social, at least for the reproductive period minimal group of 2 parents and the young. Where the parental relationship extends over several reproductive episodes, a social group centred on monogamous couples and their current and recent offspring is found: information transfer.
