Document Summary
He concluded that life form could be arranged on a ladder, from the least complex to the most complex. He proposed the law of catatrophrism, in that a series of extinctions wiped off exinct species, and new species just repopulated those areas, leading to the fossil re(cid:272)ord. James hutton put forth the law of gradualism, where in he said that the profound changes happen in a slow and cumulative manner. Charles lyell also said that the process happen at a slow, and uniform rate. The first one was that organisms use and disuse certain characteristics. The second principle was inheritance of acquired characteristics, which went like the long neck evolved as species kept reaching for higher leaves. Evolution is supported by a plethora of evidence. The first type of evidence is direct observation itself. Similarities resulting from common ancestry is known as homology.
