This growth occurs at a slower rate in the beginning and then growth spurts occur. The composition of the school age children starts to shift around the age of 6. There is a gain in fat mass but bmi is maintained at a normal value. The girls will have a higher increase of fat mass than the boys. At this age, there is improved motor coordination and the kids are able to make more complex patterns of movements. Along with these changes comes more physical activity.
