PSYCO212 Chapter Notes - Chapter 13: Internal Validity, Statistical Hypothesis Testing, Behaviorism
Document Summary
No t e b o o k: research design. Randomization should create equal groups with large numbers of participants, but may not with small groups. Random assignment is related to internal validity, while random selection is related to external validity. Pretest-posttest control-group design: a design with two randomly assigned groups, both of which are pretested, with one group receiving the iv. Random assignment allows us to rule out selection effects. Using a pretest and posttest for both groups allows us to control for history, maturation, and testing effects. Interactions with selection should affect both groups equally. Solomon four-group design: identical to the pretest-posttest control-group design, but with two added groups who do not experience the pretest, one of which experiences the iv. The main advantage is that the extra groups enhance external validity. The main disadvantage is that there is no statistical test that can treat all the data at the same time.
