Both these types of interactions can strengthen a common bond which create cohesion (entitativity) Can be more successful at reaching goals. If group members are occupied the maintaining cohesion and getting along. May be reluctant to share an unpopular opinion and rock the boat, even if those ideas might be helpful (groupthinking) Common identity: groups are often formed of people with similar characteristics. When they behave similarly, but also if they just look alike. Perception of common identity can come from a shared problem/common challenge.
