PSYCO282 Chapter 20: Chapter 20 - Miltenberger
Document Summary
No t e b o o k: behavior mod. Self-management: engaging in a behavior to control or prevent the occurrence of a target behavior. Temporal discounting: the longer the delay between the behavior and the consequence, the less likely the consequence is to function as a reinforcer for the behavior. Skinner created a two-response conceptualization of self control. Controlling behavior: the use of self-management strategies in which the antecedents and consequences of a controlled behavior and/or alternative behaviors are modified. Controlled behavior: the target behavior that is influenced in a self-management project. Goal-setting: explicitly determining the criterion level of the target behavior and the time-frame for achieving it. Goals should be achievable and be implemented in conjunction with self-monitoring. All self-management procedures involve antecedent manipulations because the person engages in some controlling behaviors in advance of the target behavior to be controlled.
