Different levels of analysis and the different political orientations that shape criminology: criminology- a field of study a. It contains variety of perspectives, and social contexts. Which forms intellectual knowledge: production of knowledge is a social and material process, its controlled by some sort of organization, ie. scholarships or a board of directors c. Uk focuses on policing and anti-social behaviours. Usa focuses more on the ghetto neighbourhood, unemployment, and offenders re-entering society after prison time. Canada focuses on changes to drug law enforcement, and moral panic (youth issue) All of them are related to the nature and social control of crime: theory- it explains everything that criminologist do. Dual nature of the contemporary criminology: vocational or professional approach- improving the immediate practices of the criminal justice system.
