Data: any collection of numbers, characters, images, or other items that provide information about something, recorded values, whether numbers or labels, together with their context. Data table: an arrangement of data in which each row represents a case and each column represents a variable. Subjects or participants: people on whom we experiment, human experimental units. Animals, plants, web sites, and other inanimate objects. Records: rows of a database, look at the (cid:862)(cid:449)ho(cid:863) of the data. Case: often a sample from some larger population that we want to understand, want a sample to be representative of the population, the (cid:862)(cid:449)ho(cid:863, an individual about whom or which we have data. How are data collected: know what you are trying to accomplish, what you want to know and why, identify the who and what of the data. The characteristics (the what) recorded about each individual. Usually columns of data table with a header. Variables help us decide which way to treat the variables.
