Canadian nurses association (2006) social justice a means to an end, an end in itself pp. Social justice has been identified as one of the most important goals of social progress. All societies suffer from inequities, which cause individuals to inevitably be a part of these circumstances. Every individual has an obligation to take resposnbile action to eliminate forms of inequity. Right now society"s status quo has inequity in it, and uneven distribution of power, and even if we don"t mean to, as citizens we contribute to this status quo. Social justice means fair distribution of societies benefits, responsibilities, and consequences. Canada"s public health care system is a way of encouraging social justice. Inequality and disparity, unlike inequity can be measured. For something to be inequitable the cause must be judged unfair in the context of what is going on in the rest of society. For the nursing profession to put social justice into practice it involves working with.
