Institution is the rule of the game in a society, it is a set of rules to society follows. Includes institutions of government political parties, interest groups, legislature. Includes institutional process annual budget announcements, confidence votes. Informal institutions include interest groups, political parties and the media. They are informal because they have not been established in the constitution. Formal legal institutions are created by the constitution providing the rules of the political game. These include, elected assemblies, executives and judiciary as well as free and fair elections. The david easton model of the political process organizaes the eb and flow of political process. Instead of focusing on the roles of particular institutions, the interactions of major players involved in enacting specific policies or set of policies is studies. The goal is to control the institutions of government by winning a majority in elections. Any power they have depends on how well they do during an election.
