Ch. 11 notes political organization and maintenance of order. Band organization a small group of related households occupying a particular region who gather periodically but do not yield to their sovereignty to the larger collective. It is the least complex form of political organization. Usually found among foragers, hunters and nomadic groups. These are kin groups, of men and women who are related (or assumed to be) as well as spouses and children. They occupy a common territory for if environmental and subsistence circumstances are favorable. They have an emphasis on achieving a consensus rather then majority. Leadership is based on ability and they remain there as long as they have the communities confidence. Tribal organization a group of nominally independent communities occupying a specific region and sharing a common language and culture integrated by some unifying factor. Commonly applied to a group (cid:449)ho is(cid:374)"t orga(cid:374)ized i(cid:374)to state. I(cid:374)(cid:448)ol(cid:448)es separate bands or villages integrated by factors like kinship and clans.
