Anthropology is the study of humankind in different times and places. In canada, this started in the 18th/19th century. Today it helps to shape government policies, particularly surrounding first nations. The study of human language as a phenomenon. A holistic perspective is the view of a culture and the relationships between all of its parts. Anth is now a systematic and careful study of humankind, and as such, has some scientific portions, including the use of facts, hypotheses and theories. The scientific approach can only go so far, as some observations cannot be perfectly replicated, and hypotheses are usually (though often unintentionally) culture bound. Gender is a social construct and varies from culture to culture. In anth, there is an emphasis on qualitative research.
