Social networking: a means by which people use the internet to communicate and share information among their immediate friends and to meet and connect with others through common interests, experiences and friends. Politicians worldwide have begun to incorporate social networking as part of their political strategy, ex. Barack obama has twitter and facebook accounts to communicate with constituents. An advantage is that others can immediately connect and engage in a two way conversation. Crisis mapping: a tool that collects information from e-mails, text messages, blog posts and twitter tweets and maps them, making the information instantly publicly available. Programmers created ushahidi, a free platform that anyone in the world can use. With new scientific visualization tools, scientists are developing antibodies for flu viruses and even hiv, which increases the pace of vaccine production. Biomedical chips can replace the function of the retina, translating incoming light into electrical pulses the brain needs for vision.
