This, however, shifted to the children because economic liabilities because of 2 reasons: child protection legislation, mandatory schooling. In north america, successful parenting occurs when the child is financially independent from the parents. Therefore, for many parents the 2 major components of child rearing were to: imbue the child with social skills, help him or her achieve academically. In socrates dialogues, 2 positions were argued: learning depends on experience (empiricism, every human carries pre-existing forms of knowledge, especially analytic forms (rationalism) Parent-to-child unidirectional model: all effects on the child flow unidirectionally from the parents to the child. Thomas, chess, & birch pioneered the idea that children had innate differences in development. This became clear with the perspective that children were not blank slates at birth. Child-to-parent unidirectional model: the perspective that the child"s temperament affects the parents.
