Document Summary
Cognitively capable young boy who has difficulty interacting with his environment since his first b-day. Pregnancy was normal, no significant maternal illness nor substance exposure. Maternal mental health was normal during and after pregnancy. Limited physical examination emphasis on neurological system- no abnormality. Conner"s rating scales: abnormal range for anxious shy behaviour, mood swings perfectionist. Single blood test to screen for fragile x, blood lead level and iron studies. Ct and mri are not recommended because they will not assist with management and rarely show significant findings. Eeg is not recommended in the absence of symptoms that suggest seizures. Diagnosis is dependant on the observation of an individuals behaviour. Persistent deficits in social communication and social interaction across multiple contexts. Autism spectrum disorder (asd) is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder that incorporates several previously separate diagnoses including autistic disorder, childhood disintegrative disorder, asperger"s disorder and pervasive development disorder not otherwise specified (pdd/nos)
