Older people are generally more conservative not because they are older but because they were socialized during a time in history when conservatism prevailed values. Women"s movement, political activism has less to dramatic changes in social. Young cohorts tend to care about : tuition fees, unemployment, environment, child care, women"s rights. Older cohort"s tend to care about : inflation, health care, pension benefits, taxes. Period effects can influence age related difference in political orientation: war, depression, recession can dramatically change political beliefs. Those who live in atlantic provinces are traditionally more conservative: may be due to rural living restricting access to information.
