Leadership is a highly sought after and highly valued commodity. People continue to ask themselves and other what makes good leaders. Many people believe that leadershi8p is a way to improve their personal, social and professional lives. Some researchers conceptualize leadership as a trait or as a behaviour, whereas others view leadership from an information-processing perspective or relational standpoint. There are many definitions of the term leadership. Although each of us knows what we mean by the word, it can have different meanings for different people. 1900-1929: emphasized control and centralization of power with a common theme of domination. 1930"s: traits became the focus of defining leadership, with an emerging view of leadership as influence rather than domination. 1940"s: the group approach came into the forefront with leadership being defined as the behaviour of an individual while involved in directing group activities.
