Sometimes conception occurs in the presence of poor nutrition or health status increase the likelihood that fetal growth and development, the health of the mother during pregnancy and the future health of the baby will be compromised. Infertile: fail to conceive within 12 months of trying: chances of conception decrease the longer infertility lasts as they age past 35. The reproductive systems of both genders begin developing in the first months after conception and progress through puberty: puberty: period where humans become biologically capable of reproduction. Females are born with a compliment of immature ova: ova: eggs produced and stored within the ovaries. Males are born with sperm producing capabilities. Due to losses of viable ova over time, very few remain by menopause. Sperm numbers and viability decrease somewhat after 35 sperm are produced from birth till death. For both genders, the quality of eggs and sperm decrease with age as damage to these cells dna accumulates.
