It"s not clear why day had to step down because . *their popular vote increased from 19. 4 - 25. 5% *popular vote in ontario increased from 19. 1% to 23. 6% *alliances share of the popular vote exceeded that of the ndp and progressive. What seemed like progress was viewed as a setback because the alliance still only managed 2 out of the 103 seats in ontario. Day was strongly religious, a macleans article said that he discounted evolutionary theory and believed the earth was only 5000 years old. *there are not enough canadians who wish for social conservative policies to elect him. Pc"s were seen as the party of atlantic canada, every 3/4 votes.
