Caused worry that francophones may become a minority in quebec. Allophones (people who have neither french or english as a rst language) were choosing. 1961 census 46% of foreign born residents in quebec spoke only english, 25% spoke both, and only 17% just french. There are provincial language laws stating that immigrants send their children to french school, make french the sole of cial language for provincial public services and promote the use of french in quebecs economy. *french is currently spoken at home by 81 % *quebec has not become less francophone, comparable to the 80% in 1901.
