A biological trigger that tells us we may be deprived of something and causes us to seek out what is needed (food or water) When drive is satisfied, activates reward centre in brain which reinforces behaviour. Body"s physiological process that allow it to maintain consistent internal states in response to the outer environment. Maintaining balance: homeostasis is the process of maintaining relatively stable internal states. Motivation is not only influenced by current needs, but also by the anticipation of future needs. Our ability to predict our future needs is not perfect, which explains why psychological variables (eg. stress, desire to appear attractive, the need to feel in control ) Physiological as well as cognitive and emotional factors. Influenced by hormones that are released in response to energy needs of body.
