PSYC 1000 Chapter Notes - Chapter 6-8: Reca, Semantic Memory, Nucleus Accumbens
Document Summary
Module 6. 1: learning is a process by which behaviour or knowledge changes as a result of experience. Unconditioned stimulus (us): a stimulus that elicits a reflexive response without learning. Unconditioned response (ur): a reflexive, unlearned rxn to an us: link between ur and us is unlearned; occurs naturally. Conditioned stimulus (cs): a once-neutural stimulus that later elicits a conditioned response because it has a history of being paired with an unconditioned stimulus. Acquisition: the initial phase of learning in which a response is established: us is repeatedly paired with neutral stimulus. Extinction: the loss or weakening of a cr when a cs and us no longer occur together. In pavlov: in tone sound occurs but food is presented less and less: extinct behaviours could appear again if cs was paired us again. Spontaneous recovery: the reoccurrence of a previously extinguished cr, typically after some time has passed since extinction.
