Assimilation- conservative process, whereby people fit new info into the belief systems they already have. Children thinking girls have long hair, they assimilate this into their beliefs, but then they are challenged when they see a girl with short hair. Accommodation- a creative process whereby people modify their belief structures based on experience. Needing to alter the belief system that thinks all girls must have long hair.
