Central route to persuasion: occurs when people pay close attention to the content of the message, evaluate the evidence presented, and examine the logic of the arguments. People internalize the message as something they believe in. Attitude or belief change tends to be strong and long lasting. Peripheral route to persuasion: persuasion will depend upon other features that are not directly related to the message itself, such as the attractiveness of the person delivering the information.
