People with anxiety limit themselves to environments, activities, and people that make them feel safe/secure by developing habits to make life predictable. These behaviours help the person regulate their anxiety. Anxiety occurs naturally as part of the fight-or-flight response (same symptoms) and shifts the person to an emergency-state. When this system is activated regularly, it becomes dysfunctional. Phobia: a severe irrational fear of a very specific object or situation. Specific phobia: involves an intense fear of a specific object, activity, or organism. Generalized anxiety disorder (gad): involve frequently elevated levels of anxiety, generally from the normal changes and stresses of everyday life. Symptoms: difficulty sleeping or breathing, difficulty concentrating, intrusive thoughts .
