Lens in eye enlarges, less lexible, less transparent. 13% of adults in developed countries, hearing declines, esp. high pitched sounds. Tiny hairs in ears that transmit sound, thinning. Esp. men: more likely in places with loud noises (factory, construcion) Menopause: the end of monthly ovulaion + menstruaion that occurs in women in midlife. Can start early 30"s, usually late 40"s 50"s. 10 earlier: perimenopause estrogen and progesterone declines. Earlier in women who smoke, never given birth, geneics. Soy bean (contains estrogen) diets (japan), lesshot lashes. Reduces hot lashes, strengthen bones, lower colon cancer. Increased risk of stroke, heart ataches, breast cancer. Key is when to take replacements: early onset, no more than 5 years. Climacteric: changes in the reproducive system that occur in middle adulthood, for women the cessaion of ovulaion + menstruaion (menopause) + for men the gradual decline in the number + quality of sperm as ferility declines. Men: testosterone declines 1%/year, issues of sexual funcioning.
