What do we mean by (cid:498)health(cid:499)? hale and holy. The etymology of (cid:498)heal(cid:499) has been traced to early european roots. The word is derived from old high german and anglo saxon words meaning whole, indicating kailo (whole, uninjured, good omen). Eventually the word became heil which meant unhurt and unharmed (german). The concept of health as a whole exited within ancient china and classical greece. In this period, health was portrayed as a state of harmony, balance, order or equilibrium while there are traditional concepts between disease, illness, insanity, evil etc. The balance between 4 bodily humors known as: black bile, yellow bile, phlegm, blood. He believed that the body"s state could be put back to equilibrium through excessive heat, cold, dryness or wetness. These imbalances could be caused by fatigue, distress, anxiety or food residues either from the wrong type or quantity.
